George Crumb at Orchestra 2001 - Sept 25 & 27

Just a quick upcoming concert announcement. This coming weekend, Orchestra 2001 - Philadelphia's premiere new music ensemble about whom I have written before - will be presenting a concert of works honoring Pulitzer-prize-winning American composer George Crumb on his 80th birthday. Crumb has a long history with Orchestra 2001, including writing his massive cycle American Songbooks I-VI for them, which will be excerpted on this concert.

Also on the docket are works by the U Penn composition faculty: Four Sacred Songs (James Primosch), Chesapeake Rhythms (Jay Reise), and the premiere of The First Letter (Anna Weesner). Vocal soloists Ann Crumb (George's daughter), Jamie van Eyck, and Barbara Ann Martin will perform.

The concert will be presented twice:

Friday 9/25 at 8:00PM - The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Philadelphia, PA
Sunday 9/27 at 3:00PM - Swarthmore College’s Lang Concert Hall, Swarthmore, PA

Visit the Orchestra 2001 homepage for more details or to get tickets.
I believe the Sunday performance is free (general admission). Not sure about Friday.
