I was recently informed that my composition in memoriam Hibakusha was selected as one of three winners of the ASCAP/SCI 2008 Student Composition Commission Competition (long title!) at the regional level. Region III includes DC, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
My score is one of twenty-four that now move on to the national level competition.
Two winners will receive a monetary award ($1,250 or $750), a premiere performance of their work at the SCI National Conference, and placement in the SCI CD series. It looks like all the hours spent preparing applications are starting to be worthwhile!
Speaking of that... I've got a few more applications to complete this week, including one for the Osvaldo Golijov and Dawn Upshaw Workshop on composing song, through Carnegie Hall. Wish me luck!
