BEDA Day 20: Reich's Double Sextet Awarded the Pulitzer Prize

Just over two hours ago, Double Sextet by Steve Reich was awarded the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Music. The work premiered March 26, 2008, in Richmond, VA, and was commissioned by eighth blackbird.

Here is a Nonesuch article on the April 17 New York premiere at Carnegie Hall that includes links to many other reviews. I especially like the writing of exacting yet eminently articulate Washington Post reviewer Anne Midgette.

You can also visit Reich's Wiki and Boosey & Hawkes pages.

Other finalists were Don Byron's 7 Etudes for Solo Piano (see his Wiki) and Harold Meltzer's Brion (and his Wiki).
